Bridging the Gap: Equity Analysis of HPV Vaccination Impact on Cervical Cancer Burden

A modelling study published in EClinicalMedicine analyzed the equity impact of HPV vaccination on cervical cancer burden among cohorts in 84 countries from 2010 to 2022. Using WHO and UNICEF immunization data and the PRIME model, the study estimated the health impact of HPV vaccination in terms of deaths, cases, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) averted. The results showed significant disparities, with countries having higher cervical cancer burdens often having lower vaccination coverage. The study found wide inequities in HPV vaccine distribution, especially within the Americas, Europe, and Western Pacific regions, highlighting the need for improved and equitable vaccination efforts globally.
