Patient and provider perspectives on LEEP/LLETZ treatment and outcomes: an interview study
Share
This study by Giovannetti, Tomalty, Greco, Kment, Komisaruk, Hannan, Goldstein, Goldstein, and Adams published in J Sex Med delves into the perceptions and experiences of both patients who underwent the LEEP/LLETZ treatment and the healthcare providers performing these procedures. The research reveals a discordance in narratives between patients and providers, particularly regarding outcomes related to sexual functioning. Patients reported a distinct symptom profile, including issues like decreased physical sensations, orgasm response, and changes in desire. Providers, on the other hand, emphasized limited experiences with adverse outcomes and discussed evolving efforts to create more comfortable clinical spaces. The study highlights the importance of open communication and comprehensive counseling, suggesting a need for reassessing clinical practices surrounding LEEP/LLETZ. Read more here.
